Africa
Deb and Bud spent 3 weeks in
Africa. What an adventure! Here are a few photos. More will be added over the
next week or two. We'll post a note here when they are all on. Comments are
welcomed. We
camped (sleeping bags & tents!) for 5 days in the Kalahari! Our first time
camping! The blue tent is ours.
Sign
posted at the campsite. Jackals came sniffing around the tent every night!
Also
posted, but we didn't see any.
Deb
actually cooked for everyone one night. Notice the looks of shock.
This
elephant threw sand on us. The Chobe River in the background. This is in
Botswana.
More
elephants in the Chobe.
We
took a boat ride on the Chobe River. This crocodile was on the bank as we pulled
up.
Deb
thought these babies in Zambia were cute. We crossed the border from Zimbabwe to
Zambia to look around.
We
visited a school (Monde Primary) in Zimbabwe. From left: a teacher, Deb, the
principal, Sharon (a friend who moved there from St. Louis). The school has no
electricity due to lack of funds.
An Ndebele village in Zimbabwe. The native population is mostly Ndebele
and secondly, Shona.
Inside
the Ndebele rondeval (thatched hut).
Three tourists were eaten by crocodiles at our lodge during the last 2 years! We
were told to stay away from the river after sunset.
Our camp in the Okavango Delta. Main lodge in the background.
Snacking
on bushes in the Delta.
Leaving
Kasane in Chobe for the Okavango Delta. Our plane had 4 seats including pilot.
Sunset
in the Delta. Yes, that's a hippo in the distance.
Our
tent in the Delta. Raised on a teakwood deck. Crocs and hippos right outside
each night!
Inside
our tent. Cold at night.
Preparing
to explore the Delta in a mekoro (hollowed log canoe). Only holds one person and
a guide.
A
shot over my hat of MD, my guide.
That's
